Hendrik Kerstens

Born in 1995, Henrik Kerstens is a photographer from The Netherlands who turned family snapshots into a career. His initial goal was to capture and record the changes in his daughter’s life as she grew older, which eventually lead to him specialising in staged photography. Over time, he noticed that his daughter Paula closely resembled subjects of 17th century Dutch portraiture. His works mainly comprise of solid black backdrops and a strict facial attitude. Paula would usually be wearing unusual props as hats, such as a plastic bag, lampshade or a napkin, which served as a recognisable feature of his works.
